Amanda Baker is the latest member to join the Student Success Center as an academic advisor. Prior to coming to WVU Tech in July 2019, she worked in human resources at a local community college where she eventually became the director. Her career shift was motivated by a strong desire to interact and assist students more directly as they navigate their individual college experiences.
Amanda holds a bachelor of science degree in biology from Coastal Carolina University. Building on her undergraduate research experience, she obtained positions within the environmental and pharmaceutical industries. Recognized for her excellent interpersonal skills, she was later employed as an industry recruiter before relocating to her husband’s hometown in West Virginia. She plans to pursue a master’s degree in higher education from WVU in the near future.
Amanda has two active children and she stays busy as the manager for a travel soccer team. When she isn’t watching her kids play sports, she enjoys volunteering at their school, reading and spending time at the beach.
